We are currently looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of Senior Tax Agent within our Property & Excise Tax group based in Greenway Plaza, Houston, Texas.

Individual will have dual property and excise tax function responsibilities with emphasis on working with different databases and building general and tailored analysis for the tax departments' use. Responsible for review of Ad Valorem tax assessments and their analysis, and legal compliance of tax return filings, payments, and audits for assigned Corporation assets. Assist in the management and performance of sales and use tax audits. Provide support and review of monthly sales and use tax compliance reports for filing of excise tax returns.

Duties and responsibilities:

* Interact with various Corporate personnel on a routine basis to acquire necessary data to complete duties.

* Develop and maintain property and excise tax system data, analysis, and procedures to ensure accuracy of tax assessments and filings.

* Preform valuations and review assessments of Corporate assets by generally accepted appraisal techniques to ensure proposed tax assessments are equitable, reasonable, legal, and fair.

* Negotiate property tax assessments with state and local taxing authorities and approve legal binding settlements.

* Support and maintain Vertex sales tax system for proper analysis of transactions to ensure accuracy of sales and use tax accruals.

* Assist with data archiving and the creation of data files.

* Perform monthly general ledger tax account reconciliations.

* Represent the Corporation before administrative appeals and quasi-judicial hearings.

* Provide support and legal appeal recommendations for unresolved tax issues.

* Conduct and represent the Corporation in tax audits.

* Authorize payment of tax liabilities in accordance with applicable state tax statutes and local policy.

* Assist with technical training for other departmental staff and provide tax training and procedures for other Corporate personnel.

* Assist with annual property value summations and Ad Valorem tax liabilities for Corporate Business Units.

* Other duties as required.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or Mathematics.

* Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access and PowerPoint).

* Experience with large spreadsheets and databases is necessary with skills querying and analyzing data.

* Analytical, self-motivated, organized, collaborative, strong negotiating, written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

* Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Accounting or Business.

* Proficiency with SAP, Oracle and Spotfire.

* Experience or proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server.

* Experience with decline curve analysis and discounted cash flow software.

* Experience with Power Plan Property Tax and Vertex Sales Tax Module.

A person that interacts well with others including active listening, persuasion, respectfulness, and empathy are key negotiating and team collaborative skills helpful for this position. Five plus years of experience is desirable. Knowledge and / or certifications in appraisal principles and practices and accounting procedures is a positive quality along with professional memberships and designations.
