Job Summary

The Economic Analyst supports and advises the chief US Economist of Cemex, providing best-in-class macroeconomic analysis with a focus on the US economy and demand forecasting of the cement, ready-mix concrete and aggregates businesses by region, state and metropolitan area.

Job Responsibilities
  • Understand the macroeconomic environment and be able to forecast macroeconomic variables (e.g., GDP growth, inflation, FX, demand industry volumes), with a focus on the US economy.
  • Utilize databases related to construction projects, construction spending, competitive materials, housing and others to make informed housing, Industrial and Commercial and Highways and Streets analyses by geographical areas.
  • Implement econometric and other statistical techniques to evaluate structural and business-cycle-related supply and demand conditions to produce forecasts.
  • Research state fiscal finances, monitor state Department of Transportation Highways and Streets spending and major infrastructure projects.
  • Work close to regional planners and inform supervisors of latest market driver developments.
  • Produce regional market analysis insight that support investment and employment decisions, pricing strategy and provide support for customers.
  • Stay on top of general macroeconomic news and support the analysis and communication of key emerging issues or public policy changes that could impact the business in the short and/or long run.
  • Create written reports and/or presentations for senior management, regional planners and the sales force.
  • Meet or exceed company safety and quality standards.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Economics or related majors
  • 0-4 years experience in macroeconomics/economic research or related role
  • Proven knowledge and experience with econometric techniques (i.e., cross-sectional, time series, panel data analysis)
  • Econometric/statistics software experience- e.g., Eviews, Statistical Analysis Software (SAS), R, Stata, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Computer Literacy
    • Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
    • SAP (ERP) Skills strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal & written communication
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Must be motivated and a self-starter
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team
  • Ability to recognize macroeconomically-relevant issues, present solutions to analyze them, implement action plans
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at one time
Working Conditions

Capable of working in an open concept office environment

Physical Requirements
  • Requires walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing to a significant degree
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
  • Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors
