Position Summary

Join our dynamic team as a Softgoods Engineering Technologist and become a vital contributor to support NASA as an Oceaneering Teammate on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) II contract. As an integral part of our organization, you'll play a crucial role in the Life Support and Systems Projects section in the Engineering Department on the NASA JSC Engineering, Technology and Science II (JETS II) Contract.

Someone in this role would typically have a bachelor's degree in engineering and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. This position can be hired at any level in our professional career framework, depending on business need at the time of hire.
**International travel may be required. Straight time overtime, 9/80 work schedule (every other Friday off), and/or 1 day of telework per week may be available**

Duties & Responsibilities

SOME OF YOUR MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE:

* Lead a team of engineers and perform project management for the development/redesign, certification, acceptance, and delivery of ECLSS flight hardware, including the Smoke Eater Filter for the Human Landing System (HLS). Hardware to be used across multiple systems (HLS and Gateway).
* Develop and review conceptual designs, conduct trade studies as required, and assess and develop key project requirements.
* Provide cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and perform task management functions.
* Work in a team environment and report to the NASA lead to provide status on progress, issues, and for support, and effectively communicate project status to both JETS management and the NASA customer.
* Provide direction to matrix organizations in research support, requirements development/review, design, manufacturing, and testing of flight hardware.
* Ensure and effectively document compliance with space flight hardware requirements and rocesses.
* Provide mentoring as needed for early-career members of the project team.
* Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

REQUIRED

* Bachelor's degree in engineering or a closely related field and minimum of five (5) years of related experience
* Requires demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by prior leadership experience involving either NASA flight hardware or sustaining engineering.
* Must be able to perform cost and schedule development/estimating and management functions and have experience with risk assessment and implementation of risk reducing measures.

PREFERRED

* BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of ten (10) years of direct engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and eight (8) years of direct engineering experience with proven project management experience.
* Prior experience with Environmental Control and Life Support Systems (ECLSS) hardware development.
* Familiar with Johnson Space Center (JSC) organizations, processes, and procedures.
* Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to coordinate support from a wide range of technical disciplines, and the ability to effectively communicate with direct customers and upper management.
* Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in flight hardware processing and troubleshooting at NASA.
* Must have the ability to visualize and work with complex systems and work with others in problem solving as part of a team.
* Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks, adhere to program roadmaps, support customer schedules and work independently.
