PURPOSE:

The Laboratory Technician analyzes samples and reports results. The position relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

KEY OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform analyses per Blended Products methodology or Standard Operating Procedures on all samples submitted to lab, including but not limited to:
    • Appearance (Clarity) and odor
    • Color evaluation
    • Refractive Index
    • Density
    • Demulsibility
    • Spatter / Crackle test
    • Foam Sequences I, II, & III
    • Viscosity (Manual or Automatic )
    • Cold Crank Viscosity
    • Elemental Analysis by iCAP ICP or XRF
    • TAN and TBN by Autotitrator
    • FTIR
    • Particle Count
    • Brookfield Viscosity
    • Flash Point
    • Pour Point
    • (Royal Purple Only) - Grease
    • Other instruments as assigned
  • Log samples into LIMS
  • Report data accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Approve Production, Bulk, and Blend Samples when they are within QC Specifications
  • Operate and maintain instruments and equipment per written procedures
  • Sample raw material drums and totes
  • Pull and test flush tote samples
  • Maintain clean laboratory glassware and surroundings
  • File paperwork and organize retain samples
  • Assist in troubleshoot issues with instrument
  • Help perform general instrument maintenance / repair
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCES:

  • College degree or minimum of 6 months industrial lab experience or 5+ years if same industry manufacturing
  • Must read, write, and speak English
  • Comfortable with metric system, calculations, and unit conversions
  • Flexible and adaptable in ever-changing work environment

COMPETENCIES:

  • Able to communicate effectively with all levels of management.
  • Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to identify problems and propose solutions.
