Job Objective:
The Financial Risk Associate will be instrumental in maintaining, enhancing, and building our risk reporting framework, serving as a foundational step towards the eventual integration of an ETRM system. This role requires a unique blend of analytical prowess, commodity market acumen, and technical skills to accurately capture marketing activity and support various functions through effective reporting.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Marketing Book Management: Build in-depth familiarity with commercial activity for [1] accurate capture of trades and movements, [2] understanding of P&L-related catalysts, and [3] awareness of impacts to market positioning and exposure.
  • Risk Reporting: Maintain, enhance and design robust, scalable risk reports in Excel for crude, NGLs and refined products. This will involve aggregating data from various sources, maintaining/developing models, and providing actionable insights to senior management. Report examples include position, exposure (physical & paper), P&L, cash flow, inventory.
  • Data Management and Integrity: Ensure the accurate entry, aggregation and retention of data used in risk reports, including the verification of data sources, reconciliation of positions, and the establishment of protocols for data handling and storage.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement improvements in reporting processes.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with trading, operations, IT, finance, and accounting teams to satisfy organizational needs and enhance marketing org capabilities. Near-term accounting support may include tracking monthly purchases & sales and performing inventory reconciliations to feed month-end entries.
  • System Transition Support: Act as a key risk liaison in implementation of data lake and eventual ETRM system, ensuring that risk reporting requirements are accurately captured and integrated into the new systems.

Qualifications:

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in finance or commodity risk management required.
  • Energy sector experience within a crude oil trading environment preferred.
  • Advanced Excel skills; proven ability to design and maintain robust Excel models required.
  • VBA, PowerBI, and experience with ETRM systems (e.g. Allegro) preferred.
  • Understanding of accounting and finance concepts (e.g. COGS, revenue, accruals, MTM).
  • Understanding / desire to learn: Energy markets, trading strategies, financial instruments.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills; detail oriented and critical thinker.
  • Self-starter, driven, willing to contribute where needed in an entrepreneurial environment.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field required.
