Job Description

Reporting to the SVP - Enterprise Application Architecture, the Vice President - Cloud Apps Principal Architect will drive our digital initiatives forward targeting public cloud deployment. This role will inform and set the strategy, executing through collaborating closely with visionary enterprise architects, shared service teams such as security & infrastructure, and will translate strategic visions into actionable plans leveraging the latest cloud-hosted digital technologies to turn our vision into reality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partners with business & IT stakeholders to understand their challenges and translate them into actionable technical requirements to drive and implement the Credit Unions' public cloud strategy for applications and integrations.
  • Aligns with and informs cloud architecture strategy. Leads the definition of target and current state architectures, transition architectures, and roadmaps, driving technology strategies forward. Primary focus on cloud PaaS services such as serverless computing, containerization, cloud DevSecOps, cloud databases, API gateway, app hosting, integration solutions for multi and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Makes recommendations on specific cloud PaaS/IaaS services to be leveraged based on our digital journey.
  • Spearheads the development (including hands-on coding/configuration when required) of cohesive technology ecosystems by collaborating with peers in IT Operations & Infrastructure, Cybersecurity, Digital Products, IT Project Management, Application Development, and Integrations.
  • Defines and implement public cloud specific technology and security requirements for new applications and projects, serving as a subject matter expert on cloud technologies (PaaS & IaaS) and information security.
  • Develops detailed cloud app architectures that prioritize scalability, security, and integration, ensuring alignment with industry standards and compliance regulations.
  • Creates comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design specifications, and configuration guides.
  • Collaborates with business stakeholders, project managers, and development teams to gather requirements and provide expert technical guidance for successful project delivery.
  • Utilizes expertise in public cloud technologies to lead organizational transformations, guiding teams through modern cloud-native architectures.
  • Provide technical and architectural leadership across both legacy and modern cloud-based distributed systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

An undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field and/or an equivalent mix of education and experience is required.

An advanced degree is preferred.

Certifications:TOGAF, AWS/Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent preferred.

Experience:

  • 15 or more years of progressive and hands-on work experience on modern cloud applications using cloud PaaS services.
  • Hands-on Architect, experienced in design, development, and documenting secure, scalable, and maintainable cloud-based solutions utilizing public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP preferred).
  • Experienced in integration of APIs from various sources to ensure seamless data flow within the solution.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital technologies and their application in enterprise settings.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing digital strategies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Has a deep technical understanding of cloud-native digital platforms, technologies, and applications.
  • Strong understanding of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) principles and how they can be incorporated into solutions to enhance functionality.
  • Ability to collaborate with development teams to drive consensus and ensure solutions are implemented according to design specifications.
  • Stays abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices to provide thought leadership and innovation.
  • Strong understanding of digital connectedness and emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Our company offers a dynamic hybrid work arrangement, which requires three days of on-site work, in the Sugar Land, TX office.
