The Accounting Manager position at PCL is a mobility-based role, which may require relocation to other PCL districts as part of career advancement or growth opportunities.

As an Accounting Manager for our US PICCooffice, you will contribute to our team by:

Responsibilities
  • Monitors and approves the daily/weekly/monthly/yearly accounting functions, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, check run, payroll, and others as required, in accordance with legislation, contract terms, and PCL policy and procedures.
  • Assists with the implementation and monitoring of, and adherence to district/company administration and accounting policies and procedures to ensure the continued effectiveness of the Finance department.
  • Reviews and analyzes all accounting/financial adjustments, submissions, and reports and ensures they are completed in a timely manner. Follows up and manages any issues, problems, or discrepancies.
  • Reviews and analyzes for accuracy monthly forecasting, district/project recoveries, and various other reconciliations.
  • Provides various ad hoc reports and analysis as required.
  • Assists with preparation of the planning process.
  • Detailed review and analysis of all month-end and year-end reporting. Raises any issues, problems, or discrepancies with management.
  • Manages and prepares district review and year-end documents.
  • Assists with assembling of information for internal financial reporting requirements (e.g., MOR, DRM/year-end) and external financial reporting requirements (e.g., government agencies, taxes)
  • Assists with assembling of information for internal/external financial audit requests as required.
  • Manages and supervises the district cash-flow cycle in accordance with PCL policies and procedures and provides recommendations on improvements as required.
  • Reviews all required documentation, including insurance, bonding, SDI, workers compensation, and ensures that lien waivers are in place.
  • Identifies and communicates to project team and management any compliance and/or project risks (e.g., trade partner issues, financial risk).
Qualifications
  • Relocation is strongly preferred to support continuous career growth.
  • Postsecondary degree or diploma in a related discipline
  • Accounting designation considered an asset but not required
  • Experience in construction or a related industry preferred
  • Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and experience with accounting software Exhibits strong management skills, with the ability to delegate and coordinate activities and lead and motivate employee

The following are not required but are preferred and will be considered an asset

  • On-site project experience.Strong knowledge of project costing principles, insurance, and contract/subcontract requirements as related to accounting considered an asset
  • Knowledge of government legislation and project forecasting and budgeting as it relates to construction
  • Understanding of owner contracts as they relate to payment terms, billing requirements, audit rights, and cost-of-work definition, insurance, and bonding considered an asset
